Uttarakhand, as a shooting location, has always attracted creators in the movie business, owing to its picturesque landscapes. According to the nodal officer for Uttarakhand Film Development Council, KS Chauhan, almost 40 sanctions have been made through the department for shooting of films, TV series and shows for other platforms. They remain inclusive of movies, songs and serials.
Sequel of the Bollywood movie ‘Badhai Ho’ would also be shot in the state. Another film project, to be directed by Shaad Ali of Bunty and Bali fame, would be shot in Nainital. In addition, around four Bollywood movies have been granted permission for shooting and a recce for some films is underway, in the state, he added.
Uttarakhand had also been felicitated with the title of the ‘Most Film Friendly State’ at the National Films Award, last year. According to norms structured by the Uttarakhand Film Development Council, on shooting up to 75 per cent of the film in the state, a subsidy amounting to INR 1.5 crore is offered.
Moreover, a 50 per cent rebate is provided by the state government accommodations, to the filmmakers. For any film project processed in the state, the state government does not charge the shooting fee. Major film projects have been shot in the state while involving the locals as a part of the project and also generating income for some. Some of the prominent shooting locations remain Rishikesh, Auli, Jim Corbett National Park and Pauri.
