Denmark beat Wales 3-0 thanks to a Dolberg brace and a classy Maehle goal to send them into the quarter-finals of the Euro 2020 with an impressive display.
The first half started off with a cagey nature as both teams struggled to take control of the game. Both teams were well-fitted with experienced stars like Gareth Bale, Ramsey, Daniel James and Joe Allen featuring for Wales. On the Danish side, players like Hojbjerg, Schmeichel, and Kaspar Dolberg all featuring as well.
Dolberg put his team ahead in the 27th minute after he managed to find some space outside of the penalty area and had the courage to rifle a low shot into the bottom corner with the ball beating the Welsh keeper before he even knew it.
The goal settled Denmark, with Wales looking to get going again. However, the rest of the half settled into a real battle for possession and the Danes managed to hold their lead going into half-time.
In the second half, it was more of the same but a scintillating battle nonetheless.
After some great work by the Danes, the ball was worked into the box and eventually fell for Dolberg who smashed it home to make it 2-0 in the 48th minute, so early in the second half.
The Welsh never really recovered. And in the 88th minute, Maelhe made it 3-0 after another great move on the left was switched over to the goal scorer who was calm and collected as he slotted away a top bins finish into the top right corner having beaten a Welsh defender in the box.
Harry Wilson was then suspiciously sent off for what seemed like a yellow card offence yet the referee deemed it a wild challenge and sent him straight off with a straight red.
Braithwaite then made it 4-0 after a brilliant move from the Danes that seemed to take advantage of the extra man. The goal was initially flagged for offside however, after a VAR check, the goal stood and essentially proved to be the final nail in Wales’ coffin.
Denmark will now wait to see if they will play either the Netherlands or the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals.
