Sassuolo is in ‘advanced’ talks with an unnamed club over the sale of Arsenal and Juventus over the sale of midfielder Manuel Locatelli, according to the club’s CEO Giavanni Carnevali.
Locatelli remains a target for Arsenal with the north London club looking for Granit Xhaka’s replacement, who is destined to join AS Roma. However, the Gunners are facing stiff competition from Italian giants Juventus for the signature of the midfielder.
Carnevali claimed last week that Arsenal had made an ‘important’ bid for Locatelli, meanwhile, reports have since suggested that he favours a move to Juventus.
But the Sassuolo chief has now insisted that while more talks with Juve are due to take place next week, the only offers have come from abroad – with negotiations with one of those clubs in the latter stages.
“We met with Juve and made an appointment next week, but everything is still to be evaluated,” said Carnevali.
“The Italian market is struggling at the moment, the offers have come from abroad, and clearly we have players who are wanted by the big clubs.”
“We are enjoying the moment and will talk to Locatelli after the Euros have concluded, as we want to leave him relaxed and focused until Sunday. We received some very important offers for Locatelli, among them one that is at an advanced stage.”
Sassuolo CEO Carnevali to Sky: “We’re in talks for Locatelli with one club from abroad… and it’s really advanced. We’re gonna meet with Juventus in the next days, but there are no negotiations yet with Juve as Italian clubs are in difficult financial situation”. 🇮🇹 #AFC #Juve
