PSV manager Roger Schmidt has admitted that he expected Liverpool target Donyell Malen to leave the club this summer.
According to Schmidt in an interview with Algemeen Dagblad, Malen and Denzel Dumfries had informed him that they wanted to take a step further in their career.
“I no longer expect them to return to De Herdgang (the club’s training ground). It was already clear after last season that they wanted to take a step abroad. I still expect that.
“If there is no transfer, we will look at it again. It will be a challenge in terms of fitness. That goes for Dumfries and Malen, but also for Cody Gakpo. They will only join later and will now have to stay fit individually. It would of course be good for us if they are there, then we have more options,” he said.
Dumfries who had a good outing with the Netherlands in Euro 2020 before their shock elimination has been linked with Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, and Everton.
For Malen, while Liverpool remains the favorites to acquire his signature, he has been linked with a move to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund too.
