Chelsea and Italy midfielder Jorginho has for the first time commented on speculation that he could win the prestigious Ballon d’Or.
The midfielder has had a wonderful season for both club and country, winning the Champions League with the Blues and the EURO 2020 with the Azzurri while playing a key role.
His performances have seen many name him among key contenders for the award, and he has had his say.
“We all have dreams,” said Jorginho. “But, I’ll be honest, it depends on the criteria that the decision is based on.
“If we’re talking about talent then I know I’m not the best in the world. But if it’s going on titles, then nobody has won more than I have this season!
“How could I compare myself to [Lionel] Messi, Neymar or Cristiano Ronaldo? They’ve got completely different characteristics to me. But, I repeat, it depends on the criteria.’
He further reflected on his achievements in the last two months lifting both the Champions League and the European Championships.
“It is hard to describe because it’s something that was so far away for me,” added the midfielder.
“It was a really big dream for me and it is such a good feeling to achieve these dreams,”
“It’s been a very good season. We did so much as a team, it was a good season for everyone involved.
“The manager [Thomas Tuchel] understands my characteristics and he told me what he wants me to do. I try my best for the team every game.
“Now I can’t wait to have fans back next season because it was weird playing without them. We want them back supporting the team and I can’t wait to see them again,”
